FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

The questions families ask us most. If yours isn’t here, schedule a discovery call or email us directly.

  • We work with parents of kids ages 4 to 14 with an ADHD diagnosis, in greater Philadelphia. Our work is with the parent, the most consistent presence in your kid's life, to translate clinical recommendations into the routines, skills, and household norms that make daily life work.

  • No. We are non-therapeutic by design. We don't diagnose, we don't treat clinical conditions, we don't provide therapy, and we don't manage medication. Those decisions stay with your kid's clinical team.

  • Our work is with the parent, not the child. We may observe family dynamics in the home, which means your kid will be in the room, but the coaching, skill-building, and strategy work is with you.

  • No. Shift Happens is a private-pay practice.

  • Every family begins with a 20-minute discovery call (no commitment, no preparation needed) and a Family Needs Assessment. The assessment is a comprehensive look at your whole family, alongside an understanding of the care team and support you already have. From the assessment, we deliver a personalized care plan, a starter toolkit, and an initial coaching session.

  • It depends on what your family needs. Some families work with us for a few weeks (just Set the Foundation). Some work with us for several months (Set the Foundation + Build Momentum). Some stay with us to Keep It Going.

  • Both. Family Shift Assessments include a home visit. Build Momentum includes regular in-home observations and coaching. The rest happens virtually, by phone, or however the moment calls for.

  • Yes. With your consent, and as part of the work. Care coordination is core to what we do.

  • Most kids we work with have more than one diagnosis or area of complexity. We work with that complexity. The reason our public scope is ADHD-specific is to keep our category claim clear; in practice, we serve the whole kid and the whole family, not a single diagnosis.

  • Yes. Set the Foundation is a complete deliverable on its own. Some families take what they learn and run with it.

  • Our Caregiver Headstart service is launching soon. When it does, here's what it'll do: help you articulate your family's needs and what to look for in the role you're hiring, equip you to interview candidates with confidence, and connect you to reputable agencies who independently source candidates for your family. Once you've made your decision, we help with the transition. In the meantime, mention it on your discovery call and we can talk through how we'll support you when the service launches.

  • Founding Families are the first families to work with us, the ones who help shape what Shift Happens becomes. In recognition, Founding Families receive a discount on the Family Shift Assessment and a permanent place in Shift Happens history. Spots are limited.
